credit card with flight miles

16 Aralık 2010 Perşembe

Introduction
After miles for airline flights, the next-most-important source of miles for most frequent flyers is the credit card. And for good reason. Cards with a mileage-earning component give users a way to "double dip" (earn miles both for the flight, the hotel or the car rental, AND for the dollar value of the charged purchase), as well as earn miles for credit card purchases which would not otherwise fall under the mileage umbrella.
While there are many cards which feature miles- or points-for-purchases, the choice facing consumers boils down to cards in the following categories:

  • Airline- and Hotel-Affiliated Credit Cards
  • Charge Cards (e.g. AmEx/Diners)
  • Bank-Issued Credit Cards with a Travel Awards Program
  • Debit Cards
We are often asked: "What is the best card for earning miles?" If there were an easy answer to that question, there would not be as many card choices as there are. The real question is: "What is the best card for ME, given MY travel, charging and balance-payment patterns?" We can't answer that question for you. But we hope the following pages can help you answer the question for yourself.

life flight trust

Professional footballers Tim Brown and Ben Sigmund have announced their support as ambassadors for the Life Flight Trust. Both play for the Wellington Phoenix and the New Zealand All Whites.
Ben told the Dom Post that he wants to help raise more awareness of the fixed-wing air ambulance. "It's kind of like the unsung hero. No one really knows about it but it saves so many lives."
Tim said he was amazed at the story of one of Life Flight's founders, pioneering rescue chopper pilot Peter Button, who was tragically killed in a helicopter crash in Wellington in 1987. "It's incredibly important and we'll do our part to help where we can."
Life Flight CEO David Irving says, "We're absolutely thrilled that Ben and Tim will be helping keep our team in the air and saving lives.
"I very much appreciate the opportunities that their personal media profile and networks will bring to Life Flight.
"As always I'll be at their games in full support."

flight paramedic certification

Abstract

This study's objective was to determine the current level and breadth of flight paramedic scope of practice. A six-item survey of lead flight paramedics in 158 air medical programs addressed five issues: 1) Certifications required above state certification; 2) Procedures included in scope of practice; 3) Medications flight paramedics are allowed to administer; 4) Requirements needed to expand scope of practice; and 5) Views on establishing a National Flight Paramedic Certification to alter their scope of practice. Eighty programs out of the 90 respondents (89%) stated that they utilize flight paramedics. Of these 80 programs that use flight paramedics, 76 programs (95%) require certification in ACLS, 65 (81%) in PALS, and 50 (63%) in BCLS. Paramedics are allowed to perform cricothyroidotomy in 68 programs (85%), pericardiocentesis in 24 (30%), and tube thoracostomy in 23 (29%). Medications approved for administration include streptokinase in 37 programs (46 %), r-TPA in 48 (60%), and succinylcholine in 50 (63%). In 61 programs (76%), the scope of practice is determined solely by the air medical director. Eighteen respondents (23%) believe that the development of a National Flight Paramedic Certification Program would alter their scope of practice. In conclusion, flight paramedic scope of practice varies enormously. Since most medical directors have the authority to alter flight paramedic scope of practice and few programs believe that a National Flight Paramedic Certification would alter their practice, medical directors should work directly with flight paramedics to expand their scope of practice.

How Much Do Flight Paramedics Make?

A flight paramedic works as part of a helicopter crew, transporting critically injured or ill persons to hospital trauma centers and helping the flight nurse provide life support care. Heavy competition for these positions keeps the pay rate relatively low. People do this job for the sheer love of it, rather than for the money.

    Identification

  1. Average salary for flight paramedics in 2008 is $44,000, according to the website Simplyhired (see Resources below), and $49,000, according to the site Indeed (see Resources below). Pay is usually hourly, because of the difficulties of translating unusually long shifts, typically 12 hours and longer, to an annual salary. Discussion by flight paramedics on the site Flightweb.com's forums mention hourly wages of $12 to $18 an hour.
  2. Considerations

  3. Competition for these jobs is intense, as a flight paramedic career is one of the most sought-after positions in the world of emergency medical services. One Flightweb member says a position opening can receive 2,000 applications, and in some instances, certified paramedics even volunteer to do the work for free.
  4. Function

  5. A career in this field begins with obtaining a one-year diploma from a vocational school as an emergency medical technician (basic). Almost all states have this level of coursework, while some also have an intermediary level. All 50 states require certification. Paramedic programs often award a two-year associate's degree. Because of the competition, a bachelor's degree in emergency medical services can provide a paramedic with more opportunity. Military service also is a good option for obtaining EMT and paramedic training.
  6. Types

  7. An entry-level job in this field is street paramedic, providing emergency care to ill and injured people, and transporting them to the hospital. Advancement depends on the ability to handle the work and accept additional responsibility. At a minimum, employers looking for a flight paramedic require extensive experience in high-intensity EMS situations, typically up to eight years in the field. One way to work on the crew for higher pay is to return to school for a registered nursing degree. This opens up the opportunity to become a flight nurse/paramedic, where the average salary jumps to a range from about $65,000 to $82,000 depending on location and experience.
  8. Features

  9. A flight paramedic must be physically fit with endurance and stamina and the ability to stay alert through long shifts. They must be mentally stable, able to make decisions under stress and have the emotional strength to deal with the demands of the work. They need the skills to triage multiple patients and provide advanced life support. The job requires the paramedic to deal with gruesome accidents, multiple victims, traumatized family members and patient death. On the other hand, the work is also exciting and highly rewarding, as the flight paramedic is actively involved in saving lives during high-pressure situations.
